Custom stone fireplaces
Hand-Cut Carmel Limestone Fireplace, CA
This stone was quarried at the Carmel Mountain in Utah, but is identical in composition to the limestone in Carmel, California. This layer of stone is an ancient sea bed which extends from the coast of California to Utah.
We chose random rectangular shapes then did extensive sawing in combination with hand chiseling. This created the random coursing pattern which has been used for centuries in England and Europe, as well as the East Coast of the United States.
The mortar was a mix of course sand, fine sand, white cement, lime and buff tint. This was followed by an acid rinse to achieve the final mortar finish.
